Brooke and Laurence Banville, a Pennsylvania couple who travel with their two children frequently, have launched BanVoyage.com, a travel review site organized around a single question families ask before booking: what the room looks like and where everyone will sleep.

Every review on the site covers a property the family stayed in, and every room tour shows the room they occupied. The tours document the bed setup for a family of four, the bathroom, the storage, and whether the Banvilles would book the same room again. Brooke Banville films and writes most of the site’s content.

The first published series covers a winter trip to Lapland, Finland. It includes reviews of Apukka Resort and its Aurora family cabins, the resort’s activity program, SantaPark, and Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi. Companion guides explain how to reach Lapland, where to stay in Rovaniemi, how Northern Lights tours work, and how the region’s glass igloo and treehouse hotels compare.

“Every time the family booked a trip, the one thing that was almost impossible to find was a real picture of where four people were going to sleep,” said Brooke Banville, co-founder of BanVoyage. “That is what gets filmed first on every trip. If the second bed is a pull-out sofa, the tour shows the pull-out sofa. We are currently having this issue for a cruise on the Explora this Christmas.”

The site sorts its coverage by trip type, including cruises, Disney parks, Caribbean and Mexican all-inclusive resorts, winter destinations, and shorter trips close to home. Separate sections cover family trips, couples getaways, girls’ spa weekends, and guys’ trips, so readers can find reviews that match the kind of travel they are planning.

Reviews now in production cover the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure cruise ships, an Explora Journeys Christmas cruise, Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Iberostar resorts in the Riviera Maya and Jamaica, Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana, Baha Mar in Nassau, and Woodloch Pines in the Pocono region of Pennsylvania. The family plans to publish each review after the stay is complete.

“Parents spend a lot of money on a trip based on a handful of polished photos,” said Laurence Banville, co-founder of BanVoyage, who grew up in County Wexford, Ireland. “The goal of the site is to show the room as it is, before anyone commits to it.”

One of the larger guides in the works is a complete family travel guide to Ireland. Given Laurence is from there and how much time the family spends visiting family there, it will be one of the cornerstones of the site. “We get asked for our Ireland trip recommendations all the time, so now we are putting it all in several articles and videos on BanVoyage,” stated Banville.

A Favorite Things section lists the travel gear the family packs, with separate picks from each family member. The Banvilles’ children do not appear on camera, and their faces are blurred in any photo the site publishes. Readers can sign up on the site to receive new room tours as they are released.
