Lorient, a healthcare-focused investment firm with approximately $2 billion in assets under management, today announced the opening of its new office in New York City, expanding the firm’s U.S. footprint as it continues to grow its team and investment platform.
Located in Midtown East, the office is Lorient’s third U.S. office, joining existing locations in Birmingham, Michigan, and its headquarters in Miami, Florida.
Lorient will initially have six professionals working from the New York office across its investment, business development and operations teams. The firm expects its New York presence to grow to approximately 15 to 20 employees over the next two to three years, putting it on a similar scale to Lorient’s headquarters in Miami.
“New York gives us access to an exceptional pool of investment and operational talent as we continue building the firm for our next phase of growth,” said David Berman, Managing Partner and Co-Founder of Lorient. “Expanding our reach gives us additional capacity to grow our platform while preserving the hands-on, operationally intensive model that has defined Lorient from the beginning.”
Lorient targets healthcare investments across three main subsectors: providers, services and technology, pursuing control-oriented investments where it can take an active role in value creation. The firm has built a proprietary data platform, Morpheus, in-house to work alongside portfolio company leadership, identify opportunities for improvement and help businesses scale more effectively.
The New York expansion represents a return to where Lorient’s story began. Berman and fellow Managing Partner and Co-Founder Jordan Broome, a New York native, first met while working as investment banking analysts at Ziegler in New York. After leaving banking to gain hands-on experience operating healthcare businesses, the two reunited to begin investing together and ultimately founded Lorient.
“Coming back to New York nearly a decade after David and I started building Lorient is a meaningful full-circle moment,” Broome said. “As Lorient continues to grow, New York gives us an opportunity to expand our team in one of the deepest talent markets in the world.”
Lorient started in Michigan with two employees and expects to have more than 40 professionals across its three offices by the end of 2026. The firm plans to use its New York presence to expand recruiting at the junior and mid-level, including by broadening its internship and recruiting pipeline across leading universities, primarily based in the Northeast. The expansion will also support Lorient’s CXO Program, through which the firm recruits talent from leading undergraduate and graduate programs to serve in Chief of Staff roles alongside CEOs at Lorient portfolio companies, providing participants with hands-on experience helping build and scale healthcare businesses.
Since its founding, Lorient has grown to approximately $2 billion in assets under management and invested across 21 healthcare platform companies, with nine realized exits.
